LAHORE:
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday strongly reacted to Caretaker Federal Information Minister Murtaza Solangi’s criticism of the PTI’s intra-party elections.

A spokesperson of the party said in a statement that the caretaker information minister’s statement about PTI’s intra-party elections has shown his bias and unleashed his biased character.

The party’s spokesperson was referring to Solangi’s interview to a private news channel, aired on Sunday, where the interim minister slammed the intra-party elections of the PTI.

To a query, the minister taking an apparent jibe at the PTI said the former ruling party wanted transparent elections across the country, and “ironically it did not want democracy within its own party”.

He said this was reflected from the PTI’s intra-party polls that were marred by alleged controversy where many candidates were elected unopposed.

Reacting to the statement, the PTI spokesperson said the only constitutional responsibility of the caretaker government is to conduct fair and transparent elections in the country. The current setup has completely failed and has become ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘illegal’.

“Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi has no constitutional and moral justification for rhetoric against the internal affairs of any political party,” he maintained and added that the PTI is the only political party in the country that is the bearer of the Constitution and democracy, which completely rejected the concept of heredity in politics and introduced capable and new faces.

The spokesperson also accused the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for attempting to keep the PTI out of electoral race.

He accused the caretaker government to be allegedly indulged in a “shameful game” of sabotaging intra-party elections of the PTI.

“They [the interim government] should be ashamed of giving statements based on lies and accusations against the key members of Tehreek-e-Insaf for continuously depriving it of a level-playing field,” he said.

“The unconstitutional information minister has not focused on any work except nonsense rhetoric, accusations and distortion of facts since assuming office,” the spokesperson added.

He further said the caretaker government has failed miserably at every level, from holding general elections to providing an equal environment for political parties within the stipulated period of the Constitution.

“Murtaza Solangi, instead of teaching democracy to PTI, should look at the duties assigned to the caretaker government in the Constitution and try to implement them,” he said.
